About Us
WHAT IS LLAW?
Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch (LLAW) is a local non-partisan, non-profit, citizen watchdog group dedicated to stopping lawsuit abuse that hurts Louisiana families and threatens our jobs and businesses. Louisiana's broken legal system severely harms our economy and hampers our state's ability to attract new jobs and economic investment. Now, more than ever before, Louisiana needs lawsuit reform.
WHO WE ARE
Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch is a broad-based watchdog coalition. We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents from all over Louisiana. We are small business owners, workers, law enforcement officers, landscapers, veterinarians, homeowners and community volunteers who have anguished over needless lawsuits. We are lawyers who want to bring common sense back into Louisiana courtrooms. We are plant managers who want our companies to expand facilities and create new jobs in Louisiana. We are teachers and coaches who are increasingly vulnerable to frivolous legal assaults. We are doctors and nurses who have seen our friends and colleagues leave or quit because they could no longer afford to practice in Louisiana. We are consumers who want to eliminate the wasteful "tort tax" from essential goods and services. We are Louisianans who want to bring an end to lawsuit abuse.
WHAT WE DO
Through community outreach, voter education and grassroots advocacy, LLAW is working to:
- Fight Lawsuit Abuse. LLAW works to return common sense and fairness to our state's courts by educating the public, raising awareness about the excesses and abuse of our civil justice system and supporting legislative initiatives for reform.
- Protect Legal Consumers. LLAW is dedicated to making sure people know their rights as legal consumers. Being a wise legal consumer is one of the best ways to prevent lawsuit abuse.
- Promote Jury Service. Serving on a jury is one way we can help stop lawsuit abuse. But the jury system only works when everyone serves - making jury service one of LLAW's top priorities.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
- Join the Fight! Sign up and join thousands of Louisianans who are committed to putting balance and common sense back into Louisiana's civil justice system. As a supporter, you will receive updates on important legal reform developments and specific opportunities for you to help make a difference. There is no cost to join.
- Donate Now. If you've ever seen the shameful TV ads featuring lawyers who promise to "make people pay," you know that our opponents are very well funded. Conversely, Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch (LLAW) is a 501(c)(4) local nonprofit citizen watchdog group with limited support. That's why we need your contribution. Whether its $5, $50 or $500, every dollar counts.
- Tell Your Story. There are many faces of lawsuit abuse - small business owners, healthcare providers, law enforcement officers, homeowners, teachers, plumbers and people in many more walks of life. If you are a victim of lawsuit abuse, or have recently seen or read about a story that you want to report, let us know.
- Tell a Friend. Help us build a grassroots army to demand an end to lawsuit abuse. E-mail your family and friends today and urge them to get involved!
- Demand Accountability. Stay informed about what your elected officials are doing or not doing to help stop lawsuit abuse, and contact them with your comments, questions and concerns. Whether you call or write, it's important that your legislators know your concerns.
